eto ang resulta ng pagbblog hop ko. nice entry. basahin nyo. oh, tamaan na ang tatamaan. HAHA..
That's an excerpt from one of Bob Ong's books and I agree with him.
I only go to Starbucks when I have lots of cash to burn and whenever I feel like I wanna be sosyal for a day. It brings out the social climber in me.
I read a blog a while ago which talked about The Starbucks Invasion in Manila. Yeah, everywhere you go, there's a branch of Starbucks somewhere. In the States, Starbucks means "a Starbucks in front of another Starbucks on the other side of the street." If you've seen Shrek 2, then you probably get the picture.
Frappucinization. A term which is similar to Globalization, only it's about Starbucks. Starbucks is the most famous coffee hub on earth. No wonder it has now become some sort of status quo indicator.
When I was in Starbucks (Katipunan) one time, I noticed some things that sort of made me laugh in disbelief. I noticed that almost everyone were speaking in english. What's funny about it is that, some of them were trying hard.
In one table, there was a group of kikay girls. They all looked so girly in their pink outfits and pearl earrings. It seemed like a scene straight from Mean Girls. Everything would've been okay, except for the way they all spoke that day. I noticed that their vocabulary seemed only to be consisted of "like", "parang", "oh my gosh", and "grabe."
I heard one of the of girls say, "Grabe! This is, like, the best coffee I've ever tasted in, like, my entire life!" and her friend said something like "Oh my gosh! So true! It's parang (emphasis on the 'R' in 'parang') super sarap, like, you knooow." Something like that.
And on one table, a group of guys were talking about their cars, girls, and going to Bora for the summer. "So pare, where are you going this summer?" the other guy answered, "Oh, I'm going to Bora with this girl. But I'm gonna head to the gym first to get my body in shape." and then this other guy said, "Hey, my dad bought me a new Hummer." Conyo boys. Go figure.
When I was in Eastwood, I also went to Starbucks to "socialize" with my friends. I was having my usual tall java chip frap when we all noticed this group of five people. They seemed to be doing okay. But I noticed something that made me think that they were in Starbucks only to look sosyal: There was only one drink on the table. C'mon, group of five and one drink? It's so obvious!
Starbucks is Starbucks. It serves great coffee and it's a nice place to go chillin' with friends. Since everything in Starbucks is so expensive, not all can afford going there. But it gives the person a sense of elitism in himself. It sort of gives you the feeling like you can be rich even you're not. At least, that's how it feels for me.
So yeah, it really does bring out the social climber in one.

*related to my previous post about Allen Iverson.*
After more than a week of shopping, the Denver Nuggets bought themselves a last-minute holiday gift: the league's second-leading scorer and 2001 NBA MVP, Allen Iverson.
The Nuggets have agreed to a deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, sending Iverson out west in exchange for point guard Andre Miller, forward Joe Smith and two first round picks in the 2007 NBA Draft. The Nuggets also receive forward Ivan McFarlin in the trade.
Iverson, who has not suited up for the Sixers since requesting a trade from the team that drafted him No. 1 overall in 1996, is averaging 31.2 points and 7.3 assists in 15 games this season.
The move leaves many wondering if there are enough basketballs to go around in Denver now that the Nuggets have the top two scorers in the league. Iverson (31.2 ppg), however, would be in action without Carmelo Anthony (31.5 ppg) until at least Jan. 20. Anthony was suspended on Monday for 15 games for his role in Saturday's altercation in New York.
"We need another scorer," Denver's Marcus Camby told the Denver Post earlier this week. "We need a guy that can complement 'Melo. That would be crazy to have them two here, the one and two scorers in the league. (Iverson's) a guy that can fit into our offense running up and down the court."
When both finally suit up as teammates, they should find their share of shots in George Karl's high-octane offense. The Nuggets rank first overall in the league in field goals attempted per game (85.2) and put more points on the board (108.8) than any team outside of the Phoenix (110.6).
In 23 games as a starter for the Nuggets, Miller is averaging 13.0 points and 9.1 assists, ranking third-best in the NBA this season. In 11 games off the bench for Denver, Smith is averaging 5.1 points and 3.6 rebounds.
The teams meet for the first time since the trade when the Sixers travel to Denver on Jan. 2, 2007.

Alert The Armory
Urbandub
The struggle could be over now this time
The times have changed us
Our silence is deafening
Nothing can make this better
Our answers seldom come
There is death in words you say
Sound the alarm
What we have built is gone
Our battle's just begun
Mayday, mayday
Bring the tears from out of your eyes
Just leave it up to me
Hearts of stone to bring out the cold
It cuts the warmth
Nothing can make this better
Our answers seldom come
There is death in words you say
I'm so sick of you and love
Sound the alarm
What we have built is gone
Our battle's just begun
Mayday, mayday
Mayday, mayday...

*Get a good look at Iverson in this uniform because it seems he'll be changing his outfit soon*
Dec. 9, 2006 --Allen Iverson has been as synonymous with Philadelphia as the cheesesteak over the last 11 seasons, but it appears that association will change in the coming days. Sixers Chairman Ed Snider told the media on Friday that Iverson has "probably" played his last game in a Philadelphia uniform and now the speculation begins as to his next destination. The former No. 1 pick and 2001 league MVP is on the trading block and time will tell the "answer" to Iverson's fate.
**For the Philadelphia fan's, this is a sad article. So, where would AI go?**
